Registration is required.
Have you ever considered bicycle touring?
I'll be recently back from a 5-week tour around Sweden, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, and thought I'd see if anyone wants to learn more about bike touring?
My main focus is self-supported cycle touring in Europe, but I have some experience in the US as well.
We'll talk about:
-Touring Style (Panniers vs Trailer vs. Bikepacking // Credit Card vs. Camping vs. Wild)
-The Bicycle
-A Brief Look at Gear (and Packing!)
-Transporting the Bicycle
-Finding Your Way
-Where to Stay
-How Much Does It Cost?
-Training
-Q&A
Bio:
Rick Steeves began cycle touring in 1989 with a Gap Year three-month trip across Europe and back. Subsequent 3-6 week cycling trips through (primarily) Europe as well as parts of the US. In 2015, Rick quit his job and rode from Istanbul to Ireland (and yes, there’s a boat in there somewhere). On the East Coast Rick has cycled the Erie Canalway, C&O Towpath, and the Great Allegheny Passage, as well as parts of the East Coast Greenway.
Rick lives in Durham, NC. With a background in IT, he regularly volunteers with the Durham Bike Coop, the Carolina Canoe Club, and the Red Cross International IT Emergency Response Unit.
This event is a DBC fundraiser. All fees go to support the DBC.
